A "must do" when you visit Ethiopia. Beautiful textiles, fanastic project.
⢠Sabahar's main purpose is to create positive employment opportunities within Ethiopia.
⢠All products are hand made. This includes spinning, weaving, dying, and finishing all by hand.
⢠Fair trade principles are respected.
⢠Ethiopians are employed, with a special emphasis on creating employment for women.
⢠Dyes used are all natural and are produced from items such as flowers, roots, berries, and bark.
⢠Traditional methods of weaving and spinning are used.
⢠An effort is made to employ people who might otherwise have difficulties finding work and stable income.
⢠Production is made as environmentally sustainable as possible.
⢠Because each product is individually made, each Sabahar creation is unique.
Sabahar Story
Name: Yeshihareg Yemer Abtew
Age: 23
Finishing team
I am a single mother with two girls (3 and 5 years old). Thanks to Sabahar, I am now able to dream for tomorrow. I, and my two girls use to beg on the streets. Now, with my steady monthly income, I can pay rent and buy food for my girls. I even plan to go to school. I used to share a room with another single mother but now I can afford to live on my own.
For the future, with God's help, I want to continue my education from grade 9 and train in cocoon rearing so as to be a benefit to other single mothers like me.
